Personal History

Those of you that have known me most of my life, will be familiar with the beginning of this story. When I was fifteen months old, I climbed up on a bag of oranges and was able to reach a can of paint thinner my mother was washing her brushes in. After drinking it, I became a very sick baby. After a disastrous visit to the local hospital, my parent drove with police escort to the Clovis Memorial Hospital. I was unconscious and suffering from chemical pneumonia. Waiting for us at the hospital was Dr. George Prothro. Along with prayers of several Christian Science ladies that prayed without ceasing, Dr. Prothro was able to save my life.

That's the first part.

A few days ago, I was reading an article online, and it mentioned a Dr. George Prothro. I did a little research and determined that this was the doctor that my parent spoke of. I sat down, sent an email of gratitude to him via the Tulsa County Medical Society and asked them to forward it to him.

Today in the mail I received the following letter in the mail:

Dear Jill
What a wonderful surprise to receive your very delightful letter! I am so glad you contacted the Tulsa County Medical Society. Than you for your thoughtfulness in contacting me. You revive so many pleasant memories from my "pediatric days" .

I have been blessed by a long and good life. After leaving Clovis in 1965 I became director of the Tulsa County Health Dept for 11 years. Then for the next 20 years I taught medical students in three medical colleges in Tulsa. I kept this up until I was 80 and since then have been involved as a volunteer in a program that is making millions of dollars of medicines available to low income persons at no cost.

Thanks again for writing. My best wishes to you and your children - and your parents if you are fortunate to still have them.

Your efforts, and story, are a great blessing. May God Bless you.
Sincerely, George W. Prothro

Thanks for the memories.

October 15

Well, we finally got some rain in Waco. Not enough to help the drought, but at least it looked wet today. I assumed it would poor last night while Paul and I took Bo to the fair. But it held off and made for an extremely pleasant evening. We met up with Terry and Ryan Sweat and Michelle and Xavier Berry. Worked out pretty well. Paul and Terry rode all the cookie tossing rides with the 12yr olds (Bo and Ryan). Michelle and I walked around with X-man, as he liked the tamer rides. We left at about 9:30. Three hours was enough for me, and Bo and Paul had been there since 2:30 or 3:00. Can you imagine. UGH. Bo has just reached the age to want to ride the scary things. Not ALL the scary ones, but all the ones that people with some sort of gray matter will ride.

Lacey brought JaiceyBelle by for an hour today. She wasn't herself. Kept wanting to lay on the blanket and watch football with Po Po. Sure enough, she had a fever. Logan and I gave her a bath until Lacey returned.

Lacey started her second job this weekend and made about $130 in tips. She said she was able to pay a couple of bills and buy Jaicey some winter clothes. Wish she didn't have to work two jobs, but proud that she is willing, and glad she is able.

October 11, 2006

Had a good visit with my nephew Josh this afternoon. He and his wife were involved in a terrible accident on the interstate outside of Post, TX. A woman ran a stop sign, and hit and killed a young man on a motorcycle, then crossed the median and hit them. Then she was hit by the person following them. Several folks were life flighted out. But Josh and Kiershen, walked away without as much as a sore neck. So, with them loosing their vehicle (and still owing on it) , they are struggling to find the good in it.

October 10, 2006

On this raining Tuesday morning, Lacey and JaiceyBelle were involved in a traffic accident. A young man ran through an intersection, and hit them. They were both okay. Although when Lacey turned to calm Jaicey, her mouth was covered in blood. She had biten her tongue. Put a scare into that momma. The young man didn't have a license or insurance, but Paul got there and insisted that the police be called. So... perhaps the family will come through with some help. I hope she doesn't have to claim on her insurance.

Below is a picture of Brooke and Jarrod. They were at the house for my birthday. We all went out and ate at Mama Baris'. Or friendly neighborhood Italian Food Place.

Good Habit

Not only is this the cutest baby in town, she has the cleanest teeth in Waco. She has on little suede UGH Boots with her little matching skirt and shrug. No, Gram didn't by this outfit. If you are family, perhaps if you will recognise the chair JaiceyBelle is sitting in. It was my sisters before me I believe, then me, then my kids. Then Mandalynn and Raina Humphrey, now the biscuit is rockin' to the oldies in it. Posted by Picasa

It's pictures like this that will force you to get up and scrub the kids bathroom tub. ARG! The biscuit doesn't seem to mind. I have more recent photos, but just got this computer back from the shop and wanted to give it a little test drive. Seems to be working just swell.

Since I haven't had my computer, I have resorted to keeping an old fashioned journal. Since it sits beside my bed, I usually try to write in it first thing in the morning or last thing at night. I guess you are officially old when you look back over your journal and it is all about aches and pains. Hardly worth recording for prosperity.

Tonight Becky and Paul and I are going to the Greek festival. We have wanted to go for years, but just never remember or can. The heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo are going on this week too. So I guess one night we will have to head out there. The kids don't have school monday so perhaps Sunday night will be as good as any. I know we will have to go next Saturday as well, so that we can chaparone a date with Paul's friend Terry and my friend Michelle. haha. More later.
