I love this building. I get to see it everyday when I pull up to work. It was one of the very few buildings left standing after the tornado of '57 tore thru downtown Waco. Some say that it swayed 6' from side to side. Recently Paul got to go in and have a tour by the maintenance man. It was built in about 1900 or there abouts, but only took a year. Imagine mixing that much concrete with nothing to haul it with but a horse and wagon and wheel barrow. The elevator that is in it now is original. Of course that was before air conditioning, but it was built around a central vent shaft that draws air. So it stays pretty cool. There are photos inside of the building process. Men digging the hole by hand. Just amazing isn't it.
